Artist Statement
"It's very difficult for me to put into words the inspiration for each painting as, after so long, it's so much just 'what I do'. It's a combination of feeling, intuition, intellect, discipline and challenge; aiming for a balance of restraint and freedom, the validity of nature, and intellectual idealism.
Usually, my works are individual and self-determining i.e. I like to work intuitively - make a mark and see where it goes (bit like life!). Like stream of consciousness writing without the words, what's been happening in my life, what I've seen and how I'm feeling at the time tempers the application. Titles are given upon completion, sometimes self explanatory like Serenity and Wintersun, sometimes as abstract as the painting eg Alexis.
As a 'right brainer' it's not important to me to attach words to understand the image and I hope the viewer has an equally wordless response to what is communicated visually. If they could only trust it!"
