After completing a visual arts degree in 1983, Jocelyn pursued a successful career as a graphic designer, working in large advertising and marketing firms in Sydney and later Canberra.

Living on the North Coast in an environment that is always inspiring, Jocelyn has had the opportunity to experiment with working in different mediums. She has worked in textile design and now concentrates on surface pattern design, particularly with ceramics.

A strong bold use of vibrant colour is always evident in her work as is a very striking, graphic use of linework and pattern, an obvious link to her work as a graphic designer.

Jocelyn's current work demonstrates her desire to create individual miniature pieces that can stand alone but which also work as a larger more complex piece when arranged as a series. They can be seen as almost mosaic-like.

These works also capture Jocelyn's continuing fascination with all areas of surface design. She is influenced by the patterns of vintage wallpaper and fabric, contemporary Japanese and Swedish design, the ceramic and tile designs and colours of Morocco, as well as†the patterns found in our everday lives - a never ending source of inspiration.
