Since graduating from National Art School, Narelle Telford has consistently been selected for hanging in Art Shows in which she continues to win awards. She has held many solo and group exhibitions, both in regional and city areas; Narelle’s work is represented in corporate, private and overseas collections.

The feelings and emotions of a subject are of prime importance to Narelle, so these dictate the development, colours and medium used in her work. Whether contemporary or abstract, the style and subject matter vary, so interpretation of a piece can often be left to the individual.

Whilst a lot of her work tends to be done in “series” with constant, subtle variations on a recurring theme, (each series can be painted differently than the one before); this does not preclude her from expressing herself in strong, and highly individualistic pieces.

Narelle has a great passion for this Earth, so she often expresses this through unconventional landscapes and aerial interpretations, using footprints of man on the earth and the footprints of Mother Earth as subject matter; sometimes using several perspectives or dimensions at once.

She has adventurous spirit and has travelled throughout Europe, Africa, Asia and America; whilst treks in Australia, on foot and by camel, in the Simpson Desert, trips throughout the Outback and along the Darling River to Kinchega and Mungo National Parks and being an Artist in Residence at Uluru have all had a strong influence on her work for many years.

Artist Statement

“Capturing the essence, feelings and emotions of a subject is of prime importance to my work, dictating the development and colours used. The fluidity of applying my thoughts to painting results is a dynamic and shifting diversity of work. Either contemporary or abstract, my style and subject matter vary, so interpretation can be left to the individual.”
