"My current work focuses on the ecological imbalance that is occurring in nature through development, degradation and drought.
I have been working on the construction of totemic columns depicting
land formations as a metaphor for ‘sentinel beings’. I see these
‘beings’ acting in a symbolic iconic nature protecting the local
habitat and environment.
There is an unmistakable beauty and fragility in nature and in
constructing these iconic ‘beings’ I am endeavouring to engage with the
viewer in a thought provoking way how important it is to preserve what
we have which is so often taken for granted by becoming too complacent.
These forms are an abstract interpretation of land formations which
have emerged from the exploration of geological landscapes and their
organic textured surfaces. On close examination, imperfections,
irregularities and layering of various textures form part of the life
and spirit of each piece."
